Christmas workout

It is that time of year again! Yes, the Christmas workout. A tradition for many years in my groups is to do a workout based on the song “The 12 Days of Christmas”. If you don’t know it you can listen to it here.

Do you want to give it a go? You can join one of my classes either online on Monday, December 15 at noon, or 9 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17 in the Vondelpark. If you have never joined the class or haven’t been for a few years, you are welcome to join one of these classes for free. You can sign up here or send me an email at lorna@wilsonsworkouts.nl.

So, what is the workout? A bit of a spoiler for the groups taking part, but we will be replacing the gifts in the song with an exercise. So first of all we do 1 rep of exercise 1, then we do 2 reps of exercise 2 followed by 1 rep of exercise 1. Then 3 reps of exercise 3, 2 reps of exercise 2 and 1 rep of exercise 1, and so on.

12 Exercises of Christmas

1st day: lunge rotation (each side)
2nd day: burpees
3rd day: side lunges (each side)
4th day: tricep dips
5th day: squat jumps
6th day: shoulder press (each side)
7th day: side plank rotations (each side)
8th day: crab walks (left and right)
9th day: seated single arm rows (each side with band)
10th day: push ups
11th day: single leg dead lift (each side)
12th day: split squat jumps (each side)

Hope to see you at one of the workouts to try it out.

Do you have some time off/away over the Christmas season? While it is good to take a rest, I really recommend that you keep some of your fitness in place during this time. You may not be able to do exactly the same, but with some planning and prioritising (see this post), it is possible to keep good habits. My Wednesday Vondelpark group always organises their own unofficial training session when I am away, which shows that with good habits and support from friends, it is possible to keep a good routine going when there is an obstacle in the way.

I therefore close this blog wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
