We have spent the last few months talking about getting back into training and how to progress from there. Today, we are going to speak about getting out into the fresh air with friends for your training.
Having spent a week in Gran Canaria on a triathlon camp in March and going cycling over the King’s Day weekend to Belgium with (other :) ) friends, it really reminds me how nice it is to train outside with other people. When you follow a training plan with a coach, as I do, it is not always possible to train with other people. Structurally, I only swim once a week with a group. The other training I do alone, this is also due to my working hours. But now the weather is improving and I can get outside more often, including starting back to open water swimming in a group.
I asked my social media followers what they are doing outside with others.

What are the benefits of training outside with others?
I find that the time passes way quicker when I am with friends. On an easy bike ride, for example, you can still chat and let the time fly. When you are outside in nature, you get the benefits that come with that. It helps against stress and improves your mood. Great for mental health!
Accountability: When you make an appointment with someone else, it gives an extra incentive to turn up and get it done.
Making friends: In my case, training for a triathlon outdoors with others has helped me make many friends over the years. I have been on many trips to train and do triathlons together with them. It has really added value to my life.
I’d love to hear about what social training you are doing outside.
