Reflecting on 2025

As we begin the new year, I am taking a moment to reflect on what happened in 2025 and look ahead to 2026. I am not the best at taking stock at the start of the year and planning for the next year, but here goes…

One of the bigger changes in my business this year is the number of clients who are also taking part in organised sports. Counting my clients, I have 3 runners, 9 triathletes (one of whom I will be doing Hyrox with at the end of January), 1 Hyrox participant, 3 dancers, and 2 rowers. Many years ago, I tried to aim my marketing towards runners and triathletes and wasn’t successful, and now they come to me quite organically.

I have a few more women either coming to me while they are perimenopausal or existing clients going through it. And while I didn’t think I would be training so many new mums anymore, I suddenly started training 3 postnatal women. I always find this a big honour and a nice challenge to get women back into training (or starting a new way of training) in a gradual, progressive way, while paying attention to the challenges that come with it.

My business feels like the peaks and troughs I used to experience have mostly flattened out. I am not sure whether it is because people aren’t taking their holidays at traditional times anymore. But that said, the combination of the Christmas/New Year holidays, sickness, and bad weather may have created a slight downturn at the end of the year/start of the new year. I also notice a new trend: clients are away for 1, 2, and even 3 months at a time. But when this happens, someone seems to pop up to fill the gap.

Goals for 2026

Looking ahead to 2026, I feel quite content with how my business is going. I don’t have great ambitions for big business growth, so my main goal is to continue working with amazing clients and to maintain the level of work and income I have achieved over the last couple of years. One goal that I do have is to increase the number of people joining my 12:00 online class on Mondays. It has space for new members. It allows members working from home to do a midday workout without much disruption to their day. If you want to help me achieve my goal, you can sign up for a free session to try it out here: https://wilsonsworkouts.nl/strength/

We did get 2026 off to a good start. The Wednesday Strength and movement group came out and trained in the snow (see pictures). There was some uncertainty about whether to go ahead, given an amber weather warning. But in the end, while a lot of snow was on the ground, it wasn’t icy, nor was there a lot of wind. The group couldn’t run as fast as they normally did, but they did run to keep warm, and when we did the same exercise in the same place for too long, it would become slippery. Moving position regularly mid-set was necessary. With 9 participants turning up, I was very proud of the group.
